La Virgin de Caracas | La sacerdotisa llorando sangre | Saturna Devorandose a sus hijos

These cruel images symbolize the state violence behind the facade of a tropical utopia. Garrido portrays the female form as the embodiment of change, of hate and love, death and rebirth.

Saturna refers to the State that eats its own children. Standing up for the poor turned into corruption and inequality. La Virgen de Caracas is about the core of everyday violence, not just politics, but also the silent violence of malnutrition, lack of medicine, everyday powerlessness. In La sacerdotisa llorando sangre, the virgin priestess feeds blood, it represents the government that uses its rich natural resources not for the people, but for its own gain.
