When Glorianna Ximendaz began her own journey of pregnancy and motherhood, she felt the urgent need to break the cycle of sexual abuse and violence that had affected not only herself but also generations before her in her family.

’Origen’ is a deeply personal and long-term project that confronts these stories. The images are an exploration of memories and together tell a story that needs to be told. Not only to confront people with its darkness and spark conversations within Ximendaz’s own family, but also to draw attention to gender-based violence and femicide in Latin America and around the world. As such, ‘Origen’ is an act of resistance and a statement from the female community.

Through powerful imagery and the exploration of memories, this project aims to challenge societal norms, dismantle oppressive structures, foster (collective) healing and inspire women to claim their own stories and free themselves from the shackles of silence.
