MONUMENTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE (2011-present)
As a country largely below sea level, the Netherlands has endured an endless series of storm surges and floods over the years. Climate change, soil decline and rising sea levels mean that protective measures against the water still require constant reassessment, adjustment and renewal. In her work in progress MONUMENTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE, Anja de Jong shows landscapes and locations where for centuries humans have either embraced water as a friend or fought it as an enemy. Without these interventions, our lives with water – our (cultural) past and our future – are built on marshy grounds.
