Man and Building

The Dutch visual artist Liza Wolters captures the absurd delicacy of our daily-lived reality by presenting a 12-seconds looping video of a man walking on a street. It is a rather common sight, however deciding to record such a mundane vision unveils a bigger intention from the artist. In the instance where the man turns the corner and is no longer visible behind the building, the short clip shifts from being banal documentation to a profound questioning of that man’s existence. The composition of the faded colors, the spotless clean street, and the age of the protagonist, renders the scene feeble and existential.
