Donovan Garcia
Jacob Dwyer approaches reality from a position that is somehow outside of it. In his short film, ‘Donovan Garcia’, we are taken on a journey into the Jean Lafitte swamps, south of New Orleans. As the trip unfolds, Dwyer, who narrates from behind the camera, introduces us to his friends. One friend, however, seems to always evade the camera’s depiction.
His name is Donovan Garcia and at some point you start to wonder if he’s even really there. Dwyer uses this character’s elusive presence to rise above the everydayness of his film. And as the semi-documentary begins to morph into an increasingly distorted and fragmented format, our sense of truth gets lost in the thick swamp air.
