Abzgram (2017-2020)
Young Polish artist Karolina Wojtas takes a colourful, often funny, but also disturbing approach to expose Polish education, which is changing rapidly. Every new government turns the education system upside down and Wojtas sees schools in Poland change from freezones for creativity and playfulness to factories that produce the desired citizens and discourage their own opinions.
CLASSROOM ENTRY PROCEDURE
- The teacher arrives to the classroom immediately after the bell.
- Pupils are arranged in alphabetical order, which is permanent until the end of the year.
- Pupils stand, not touching each other, rucksacks placed on the floor next to their right leg, hands held along the body, looking straight without moving or making a sound.
- From the moment of arrangement, the teacher counts down a minute. If the pupils last out a minute, the teacher let them enter the classroom one by one. The pupils that are still in line have to behave according to p.3.
- Pupils who move, or make a sound, have to remain outside.
- The teacher sets a next minute for those pupils. If they still do not meet the conditions, he lets them into the classroom anyway, again one after another.
- If during the entry process any of the pupils say a word, he or she has to go back to his or her position and stand there according to p.3.
- Important: immediately after the pupils take their places, the teacher reads out the rule and adds the last point: ‘The pupil is rewarded for his good behaviour. It pays to behave well.’
- Immediately after the rule is read out, the teacher gives tokens to the pupils who entered the classroom correctly and on the first try.
- Important: The formula is read before each lesson.
