Cuba, Bent Not Broken
Pieter Griffioen travelled through Cuba three times, between 1995 and 1998. He encounted a communist state, with negative and positive aspects. The political climate in Cuba is suffocating and living conditions are difficult, which is amplified by the economical blockades. Despite the poverty Griffioen encountered great joy in daily life. He has pictured the warmth, music and hospitality of the country, a gift that we from the West can only look at with wonder.
Griffioen’s work mainly comes from long travels. He calls himself ‘a drifter with a camera.’
