Solar Traces
In 1993, artist Martin Borchert and photographer Greetje Bijleveld travelled along a route from the most southern of South-America to the most northern part of North-America. With a distance of 14.000 kilometers, this is the largest connected north-south trajectory over land. In this mutual project both visualise this trajectory.
Greetje Bijleveld among others portrayed the men, women and children she met in resting places. Martin Borchert let the sun burn into wooden bowls he created along the way, at “different” latitudes. ‘Solar traces’ is a search for the effect the sun has on our planet and the people living in it.
