Roope Rainisto’s work feels like a road trip through stories and characters that inhabit the ideal of the American landscape, somewhere in the last century. Inspired by early colour photography, this work combines the visual language of traditional photography with the limitless artificiality of AI. Nostalgia and futurism meld together, shaking our perception of reality.
AI generators will eventually be able to create a reality indistinguishable from the real. Rainisto celebrates the dreamlike artefacts created by the contemporary generators, embracing their unique characteristics to create a new visual language of post-photographic storytelling.
