Another America
‘Truth’ is becoming increasingly endangered in the United States. The country is filled with conspiracy theories, where facts and even history are seen by millions as a mere opinion. With the rise of AI, anyone can now create their own ‘evidence’ to support any belief, no matter how strange it is.
Another America begins with this idea and presents us with a United States that never existed, infused with the atmosphere of the 1940s and 50s. The images feel both familiar and strange, much like the world we inhabit.
For Toledano, AI poses no threat but rather something new and challenging. The position of photography will therefore change, just as painting transformed with the advent of photography nearly two centuries ago.
