Souvenir (2014-2018)

In recent years, Creyghton has followed the more than a thousand kilometers long Westfront-Hindenburg Line, which crosses Belgium, France and Switzerland, together with writer Serge van Duijnhoven. The guiding principle for this quest was the poignant personal notes of soldiers, who preserved their humanity in the trenches of the First World War, in a hostile environment. While working on his major landscape project, the photographer regularly encountered special finds. He found a piece of wood from a tree destroyed by shells, shards from an explosion and other ‘silent witnesses’, amid stones, feathers or plants. Everyday details, often specific to the history-laden locations.
