Ode to Jac. P. Thijsse (2018)

Reeder likes to concentrate on long-term themes. His most recent project, which he’s already been working on for several years, revolves around floral still lifes. Here he indulges his tendency for abstraction, stylisation and reduction. He starts from scratch, with wallpaper, which he sees as a form of composition without structure. For ‘Ode to Jac. P. Thijsse’ he examined numerous floral motifs, from the middle ages to the present day. Especially for IN VIVO, he created works that establish a connection between the personal experience of nature and its cultural design, inspired by the work of Jac. P. Thijsse. The Verkade albums with pictures of Dutch nature, which Thijsse was the main author of, made a big impression on Reeder in his childhood.
