Apostolis Zolotakis – Black Box
Zolotakis looks at the present through the eyes of an archaeologist into the future. This installation refers to nature, the ancient Greek heritage and the Christian faith, related to phenomena that occur in our time. In this century, the meaning of knowledge and time is being redefined, while the power of technology is increasing. Quick information yields huge profits or causes unbelievable losses. The inspiration for the series of works, of which this installation forms part, was the Flash Crash in 2010, when the United States stock market lost a trillion dollars in just 36 minutes. The cause was the Black Boxes of the trading computers. Hidden in it were algorithms, dormant cells that kicked in when certain events happened simultaneously. The stock market went haywire
