FUTURE FOSSILS (2016) / KALEIDOSCOPE FILM (2015)

For FUTURE FOSSILS, Angeline van Gent created her own fossils. She impressed random, everyday objects from the surrounding outdoor space into clay. As a kind of survey of the world around her, Van Gent researches, interprets and rearranges them into fossils. Without context or registration, she sends the fossils of her life to random places around the world. In this way, she raises the question of whether the world becomes clearer by looking at it as though you are not part of it.

Van Gent also tries to come to grips with the world around her in her KALEIDOSCOPE FILM. Dissecting the workings of the kaleidoscope, she attempts to mould them to her will. By joining the cogwheels of a watch to the illusion of the kaleidoscope she creates a new, almost organic order – an insight into the mystery of time or another illusion? It raises the question of whether the truth is an accumulation of the concrete, separate components, or rather the magic of the whole.
