D-Days (2011-2013)
Nepotism, corruption, backroom politics, strong corporate lobbies and leaders who want to stay in power at all costs – photographer Johann Rousselot wonders if today’s democracy is under threat. At the same time, however, he notes that the world has never seen so many civil uprisings as in recent years. He admires the courage, energy and fraternization that comes with political protests, regardless of the protesters’ success with them. In these turbulent times for democracy, according to Rousselot, they have become indispensable. His layered collages, in which portraits are combined with found visual elements based on the characteristics of the movement in question, portray the activists as militant icons.
