TIME OFF (Afghanistan, 2007)

While the cameras in war zones usually focus on the consequences of combat actions and bomb attacks, the Dutch photographer Sander Foederer focused on the leisure experience of the Dutch soldiers in Camp Holland in the Afghan province of Uruzgan. Foederer photographed soldiers at the hairdresser’s, dressed as Elvis, during kickboxing training and while celebrating a birthday party – from a distance, as a spectator, waiting for special situations and moments.
