Mahmoud Hams
Mahmoud Hams (1980) grew up in a refugee camp, studied journalism at the Islamic University – where he is currently a photography teacher – and joined the AFP news agency in 2003. Since then, he has been covering events in the Gaza Strip for the Western media. He experienced the risks of this firsthand in 2004: during an assignment he was shot in both legs. His work has been recognized with several awards, including an Arab Press Award and an Award of Excellence, Picture of the Year International, 2007.
