A Dinner for One

The Lebanese designer Micheline Nahra has disassembled a four-person dinner setting and rebuilt it for one person, attempting to make absence visible. ‘A Dinner for One’ tells the story of a former normalcy of life that has disappeared since the Lebanese civil war. Nahra transforms this memory through the process of deconstructing and reconstructing, as a way to explore the relationship between objects and the layers of stories within them. It is furthermore a reflection on the human need to retrace the past, to preserve memories and to rebuild what is broken.
