Westerwoldezon
Nature’s delicate rhythm and seeming softness contrast sharply with the technical format of digital images. But in ‘Westerwoldezon’, Jacques Perconte manages to create magical landscapes that resemble colorful fairy tales by using reverse engineering of video compression algorithm.
Together, the original image and the processing form a new nature, which is constantly in motion and ever-changing. By adopting a particular attitude towards technology, regarding it as something that isn’t separate from nature, Perconte questions our relationship to landscape.
The landscape is central to all his work. Through film, audio-visual performances, photography and installations, Perconte refers to the history of painting and its mastery of nature as a subject: what actually is our relationship with that nature? The French artist has created a new work especially for Artphy, inspired by the stream valley landscape of Westerwolde.
