Wisdom Fertilizer
In ‘Wisdom Fertilizer’ video artist Alicia Mersy shows how powerful we can be as human beings. Her short film is conceived as a service, an accompaniment to achieving autonomy in our hyper-capitalist, individualistic world. By making a satire on new age YouTube videos for self-help coaching, popular news media, illustrations and commercial graphic aesthetics, Mersy reflects on the horrors of late capitalism. Her film allows for a meditative space, in which people can escape their thoughts for a moment.
Alicia Mersy uses her camera to connect with people and the divine. She does this by forging pathways to personal and collective peace within a world of infinite production and boundless input. With inspiration found in the natural sciences, global capitalism and spirituality, her approach to new media, photography and installations creates space for discourse around self-representation, decolonial aesthetics and class politics.
