Loading... loop (the garden of nostalgia)
Noorderlicht wants to give young people a structural place within the organization and therefore started the Noorderlicht YOUNG project in the spring of 2020. The aim is to connect a group of passionate young people who are engaged in lens-based art with Noorderlicht for a longer period of time as a sounding board and ultimately as autonomous programmers. From a number of brainstorming sessions before and during the Noorderlicht Photo Festival ‘Generation Z’ a collective of six young people emerged. The only assignment Noorderlicht gave the group was to take the festival theme as a guideline, otherwise they were completely free to create work. They call themselves PPF6 and from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 18 October their group exhibition ‘Loading ... loop’ can be seen in the Noorderlicht Studio.
During a camping weekend on the grounds of Museum Belvédère in August, the six laid the foundation for the first presentation of Noorderlicht YOUNG. The exhibition is called “Loading … loop” because to them life feels like a planned, often predictable loop. The six still young artists often long for their youth, for a time when not everything had to be meaningful. With an installation of photo and video, they depict their longing for the carefree bubble of the past by creating a new bubble, a garden of nostalgia.
“A nostalgic Generation Z…?”, Nicole McNeilly wonders in her piece on the Noorderlicht YOUNG project in online art magazine Jegens & Tevens.
