Matter Gone Wild
Matter Gone Wild is an immersive work by Josèfa Ntjam that weaves together fiction, botanical science, and revolutionary histories.
Drawing on encrypted and underground networks, she likens resistance to mycelium—networks of fungi that communicate beneath the surface. The installation includes video, sound, sculpture, and poetic texts that invoke figures like Toni Morrison and Henrietta Lacks alongside mythic beings such as Mami Wata. These human and non-human presences coexist in a vibrant biotope of revolt and healing. Rather than presenting nature and technology as opposites, Ntjam imagines them as interlinked, with plants serving as both protectors and spiritual allies. This vision resonates with themes explored in Machine Entanglements, where networks—biological, digital, historical—intersect. Through layered storytelling, Ntjam proposes a speculative future rooted in solidarity, memory, and resistance.
