The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar (VS, 2010-2013)
Renewable energy is an essential part of a long-term strategy for human survival on Earth, according to Jamey Stillings. He captured aerial photos of the Ivanpah Solar Generating System, which is being built in California's Mojave Desert.
Using 330,000 mirrors and the sun, electricity will be generated to be supplied to 140,000 homes in the United States by the end of 2013. It is the largest power station in the world for this form of energy. Such projects, Stillings said, raise questions about the use of land and natural resources, and the contradictions within the environmental movement, local communities, the energy industry and the public. Constructive solutions are key to paving the way for renewable energy, Stillings says
