Maritimas (2009-2013)
A day at the beach is probably one of the most photographed events in human existence.
In his dark black and white photos, Jose Diniz transcends the clichés that accompany them. The photos were taken in the water, in order to convey to the viewer the different physical and psychological experiences – lack of balance, dizziness, harmony, continuous movement and the taste of salt. Due to the low camera angle, the waves grow into moving mountains, symbolizing man’s varied relationship with the sea.
