Dikken Kat en Kolderveen (Artistic residency, Kolderveen, 2006)
In the autumn of 2005, Jantien de Bruin stayed in a converted dairy factory in the church village of Kolderveen, on the border of Drenthe and Overijssel. In melancholic black and white, in the classic square medium format, she photographed the life and inhabitants of the eighty farms that make up the hamlet.
De Bruin does not show an idyllic community where everyone knows each other and where people and nature still coincide, but a village that has not been forgotten by modern times. She records what disappears or has already disappeared.
