Confronting Views - Harry Cock
One of the last places in this world I wanted to be was the Middle East. The center of tension and violence in our time.
Until a friend asked me to go with me to a place where he provided humanitarian aid. That was in 1998. A relatively quiet period. And actually I was curious about what life was like. I wanted to take pictures like I do here, everyday life, everyday life. In 2000 and 2001 the situation had again deteriorated hopelessly. Still, I tried to keep looking at the ordinary things. The fixed image we have of that area is one of violence and misery. Still, normal life goes on, I tried to show a bit of that.
