2023: year of the imagination

23 Dec 2022

We wish you all good holidays and a new year in which imagination may reign supreme. Imagining what happens around us is food for the soul. Without imagination, the world is not legible, confusion reigns supreme and people end up opposing each other. In other words: without imagination, there is no connection. Noorderlicht offers a programme through which we want to contribute to visual literacy.

We have a lot in store for you in the coming year.
Here is a selection:

We start on 4 February 2023 with a special portrait series of residents from the earthquake area in the province of Groningen. The exhibition takes place at Museum aan de A and is a collaboration with Museum aan de A and Noorderbreedte. The image below is a ‘work in progress’ by photographer/artist Alice Wielinga, who is creating 15 staged portraits of residents for that exhibition. This is one of those staged portraits. The exhibition is part of our ‘Renewed Energy’ project, a collaboration with BPD Cultuurfonds.

On 17 June, we launch the Noorderlicht Biennial ‘REGENERATE’ at Museum Belvédère in Heerenveen. The festival then moves through the north of our country, including once again in Museum aan de A, from 26 August and a Grand Opening on 6 October in the Akerk in Groningen. We will continue like this until the end of 2023!

In the coming time, keep an eye on the website and our socials for further updates.
With many thanks to all the governments and funds that believe in us and contribute to our work, and of course to all our loyal visitors and participants!

See you in 2023!

On behalf of all colleagues and the board:
