Breeding ground Noorderlicht

9 Dec 2022

In the coming months, we will renovate and transform Noorderlicht Studio into an interactive workshop for talent and experimentation. With this we are taking the next step in the development of our own presentation place into an incubator.

We will try things out there and incorporate good results in the programming of our festival and other projects at home and abroad. The first project in this series was ‘Muddy Pink Dinosaur‘ by Sarah Carlier. In late 2021, she was at work in our Studio and then presented the result of her research into creativity of the region’s residents.

For our programme, we are constantly looking for new talent. Until recently, for instance, there was the special exhibition ‘In the Courtroom with Rocks‘, in which recently graduated artists Olivia d’Cruz and Marina Sulima juxtaposed three mineral extraction stories from India, Indonesia and Groningen. There will be an exciting follow-up to the latter project at the Burgerweeshuis in Amsterdam and the Tschumi Pavilion in the city next spring.

Thus there is coherence between Noorderlicht Studio as the humus layer of our programme, the festival and our exhibitions offshore. There, we give plenty of space to young image-makers, working together with other institutions in the North.

Noorderlicht Studio ‘new style’ will soon have room for workshops, educational activities, exhibitions and public activities. Moreover, we are making workspace for our team on the ground floor, putting us on top of the Studio programme, and moving our production department to the basement. Next spring, we will already start our first talent development project…

So keep an eye on our socials and website for more updates!
