Violette Cornelius
About Violette Cornelius
Violette Cornelius (1919-1998) came to the Netherlands in 1938. After six months at the Hague Academy of Visual Arts, she exchanged this training for the New Art School in Amsterdam. During the war she joined the artists’ resistance and contributed to clandestine magazines. After the war she specialized in architectural photography. Around 1950 Cornelius came into contact with the architects around the magazine ‘Forum’ through Jan Rietveld. This made architectural photography an important specialty, but in the end she chose reportage photography.
