About Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen

Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen (Finland, 1948) became interested in photography at an early age. She moved to London to study at the Regent Street Polytechnic Film School. There she joined fellow students in starting the collective Amber, which moved up to Newcastle in the late 1960s to record its working class culture. Byker(1983) is her best known book. In addition she has published Step by Step(1987), Writing in the Sand(2000), The Coal Coast(2003) and Byker Revisited(2009).
