Miguel da Silva Paranhos do Rio Branco (1946) studied at the New York Institute of Photography in 1966 and at the Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial in Rio de Janeiro in 1968. Rio Branco began exhibiting paintings in 1964, photographs and films in 1972. From 1970 to 1972, he worked as a photographer and director of experimental films in New York. Nine years later, he directed and photographed short films and feature films. At the same time, in addition to his personal photography, he developed a documentary work with a strong poetic charge. In a short time he was recognized as one of the best photojournalists of color.
