About Majid Saeedi

Award winning freelance Photographer Majid Saeedi (Iran, 1974), has been working for Getty Images in the Middle East since 2004. In 2001, he was a photographer in Afghanistan for Time Magazine. In 2004, he founded the Fars News Agency and became head of its photo department.

Between 1992 and 2002, Saeedi was selected seven times as Best Photographer of the Year in Iran, and has been the head of the photo departments of nine different newspapers since 1998, also in Iran. In 2009 he was arrested by Iranian security agents after the disputed re-election of Ahmadinejad, but was released after several weeks.

He has won several international awards, including 4 gold medals from Asahi Japan (2000-2008) and the International Photo Awards (USA, 2005). In 2011 he was one of FotoEvidence Book Award’s finalists, with his series War Victims, about Afghan landmine victims.
