Juan Carlos Alom
About Juan Carlos Alom
Juan Carlos Alom (1964) is the odd one out in Cuba photography. His portraits of black youth and hippies, shot in the early 1990s, do not fit in with traditional Cuban documentary photography, which has always completely ignored these groups. And with more recent, theatrical shots, Alom is one of the few in Cuba to engage in fine art photography. Alom does not so much tell a story with his photos, but creates these poetic images to make a personal gesture.
