About Eva Besnyö
Eva Besnyö (1910-2003) was born in Budapest. She was trained there by the then well-known photographer Jozsef Pecsi. In 1930 she left for Berlin where she met her future husband John Fernhout. Through him she was included in the circle around the painter Charley Toorop. In the 1930s she photographed a lot of architecture on commission. After the war she shifted her field of activity to documentary series. In the 1970s she was heavily involved with Dolle Mina and recorded the movement with many recordings. In 1994 she received the prestigious oeuvre prize from the Fonds BKVB and in 1999 she received the Dr. Erich Salomon Prize.
