About Boniface Mwangi
Photo-activist Boniface Mwangi is a TED FELLOW and the founder of Picha Mtaani, a UN-funded initiative that focuses on reconciliation through photographic exhibitions and debate.
His life mantra is ‘living my life to make a difference’ and he makes the difference through his work as a social documentary photographer. Amidst the violence that followed the 2007 election in Kenya, he falsified his identity and risked his life to photograph the atrocities his countrymen were inflicting on one another.
His work has appeared in most important newspapers in the world. He as been named the CNN Africa Photojournalist of the Year 2008 and 2010 among many other awards. In 2011 he got an honorary mention in the FotoEvidence Book Award election for his series Brutality.
He also features in the CBC documentary Africa on the Move – The Modern Warrior.
