About Balthasar Burkhard

Balthasar Burkhard (1944), studies from 1961-1964 under Bernese photographer Kurt Blum. His first independent work, Die Alp (1963), was awarded the Eidgenössische Stipendium für angewandte Kunst. In early 1965 he has his own studio and works as a freelance photographer. Becomes chronicler of the Kunsthalle Bern where he maintains close contact with artists and curators. With Harald Szeemann, he travels to and documents other art centers, including the Venice Biennale.
