Martina Bacigalupo, Gulu Real Art Studio, 2011/2013, found photographic prints
In 2011 Martina Bacigalupo found a bin full of faceless portraits in a photo studio in Gulu, Uganda. A machine made four ID photos at once; those who needed one saw the rest discarded after the face had been punched out. Bacigalupo collected the remnants, showing only clothing, posture, hands and background. What the machine treated as waste shows what the body knows about itself. Without a face, the body becomes the only legible archive of a person.
