From Text-to-Clay

For From Text-to-Clay, Vera van der Burg trained an AI model on her own ceramics during a residency at the EKWC and fed it prompts such as ‘Ceramic Female Pain’. The model generated images without knowing anything of clay; Van der Burg remade them in clay, after which the sculptures became training data again. Clay cannot be forced: you work with drying time, kiln and gravity, or it breaks. Next to fast AI tools, the digital and the manual hand become interlocutors.
