Faded Connections

Faded Connections is part of a series Mandy Franca built up over more than ten years around her father, who cared for his mother in Curaçao. Its basis is a phone photograph of an old family picture: her father as a young man, surrounded by his mother, an aunt and an uncle. With oil pastel Franca works directly over the print; some figures are half covered, others disappear. She makes visible how memory works, fragmentary and partly erased, and the photograph becomes a carrier of family history and connection across generations.
