Tell Me What I'm Remembering

When someone remembers something, they remember the last time they remembered an event, not the actual event. ‘Tell Me What I’m Remembering’ depicts these fading yet evolving memories, with all their fragility, instability and fluidity.Ever since childhood, Claire Sunho Lee has experienced vague, recurring memories which made her wonder whether they were hers.

One day, her cousin accidentally told her that Claire had leukemia as a small child. Suddenly, vague memories became harsh realities. At the same time, they were mixed with new information and perspectives, pushing Sunho Lee further into the borderlands between dream and reality. The more she actively tried to remember these moments, the more vivid they became.

By subtly diffusing scents from hospitals and clinical environments into the space, Sunho Lee allows the audience to experience memories not only visually, but also in terms of smell. She brings vaguely recollected moments from her childhood to life, creating a sensory trigger that draws viewers into her personal story. At the same time, she encourages them to relive and interact with their own memories.
