Fragments of a River
Angela Blazanovic's works are constructed from discarded objects, which she finds at low tide on the banks of the River Thames in the heart of London. She seeks to make us look at the river in an unexpected way and to become more sensitive to the consequences of our dealings with the environment – including the plastic pollution we encounter all over the world.
Using litter to create delicate, one-off sculptures, Blazanovic’s work calls for a meditation on recycling, for a revaluation of what seems useless at first glance. When creating her sculptures, she draws inspiration from old Dutch still lifes. The injection of this historical layer gives the work a timeless character. She confronts us with our history and our responsibility for the environment.
Angela Blazanovic (Germany, 1995) lives and works in London. Her work explores the interdependent relationship between humans and landscape in a performative manner, focusing on how we can read this connectedness from the traces left by humans in nature.
