Seven emerging photographers from the North in the spotlight

Rauw Vermogen looks at Groningen today and in the future. Seven emerging photographers from the North use fresh and optimistic images to show the work, people, and places that shape the regional economy. They focus on healthcare, agriculture, digitalisation, energy, and entrepreneurship. Rauw Vermogen brings attention to what is often overlooked: a region full of initiative, dedication, and change.a

The exhibition opens simultaneously with the premiere of World Press Photo's anniversary exhibition What Have We Done? in the Niemeyer. While World Press Photo looks back, Rauw Vermogen looks to the future. The photographers' work reflects Northern curiosity and thus fits seamlessly with a new generation that is searching for meaning, space and connection. The exhibition is an initiative of Noorderlicht in collaboration with Groningen Merkpartners. With this exhibition, the initiators invite everyone inside and outside the province to come and see and participate.

What Have We Done?

In 2025, World Press Photo will celebrate its 70th anniversary with an exhibition entitled What Have We Done?, curated by Cristina de Middel. The exhibition will be hosted by Noorderlicht and will premiere on 19 September at the Niemeyer. A day later, What Have We Done? will also open in Johannesburg, South Africa. The exhibition aims to deepen and challenge one’s understanding of how images construct meaning, promoting a more nuanced engagement with visual storytelling. Read more here.
