The Truman Show
Ever since he was a baby, Truman (Jim Carrey) has lived in the town of Seahaven. He does not know that all the people around him are actors and that he is being filmed 24 hours a day by hidden cameras. Showrunner Christof (Ed Harris) directs his life from the control room. But then Truman falls in love with the wrong person.
Peter Weir’s ‘The Truman Show’ from 1998 is much more than a comedy and fits well with the festival theme of Noorderlicht this year. In the story of Truman Burbank, the reluctant reality TV star, there is a sharp commentary on our contemporary media landscape, a reflection of our own identity and an imagination of how we can break with an environment that wants to control us. Jim Carrey is rock solid in his first serious role and Ed Harris’ directing, script and supporting role were nominated for an Oscar. Note: This film is in English with English subtitles.
