Levels of Engagement

In Levels of Engagement, Dawid Dobosz presents a mountain landscape that doesn’t really exist.

It’s made from separate photographs, surveillance footage, and AI-created images stitched together into one continuous view. This artificial panorama shows how technology changes how we see and understand nature. What looks like one natural scene is actually a digital mix, shaped by algorithms—computer rules that guide decisions. By using CCTV and security camera images, Dobosz also points to how humans try to watch and control the natural world. The black-and-white print on newspaper gives the work a fragile, almost archival feeling, like a memory that could fade. The piece highlights how technology changes not only our view of the environment but also how we try to protect, observe, or manage it. Levels of Engagement shows how nature and technology are deeply connected, and how digital tools shape the way we remember and experience the world around us.
