The first steps towards Noorderlicht Festival 2023

1 Apr 2022
Guest curators Eefje Ludwig and Michelle Kasprzak visited Noorderlicht to discuss the first steps towards the Noorderlicht Festival 2023. It is the first edition in which we collaborate with two guest curators.

We do this because we want to enter into and maintain a dialogue between more traditional documentary photography and other forms of lens-based media. They are Eefje Ludwig (NL) and Michelle Kasprzak (CA). Ludwig's background is documentary photography, Kasprzak's new media. Both work closely with chief curator Wim Melis, who monitors the Noorderlicht signature, in which artistic quality and social commitment go hand in hand. We are convinced that in this way we can develop an exciting program for you, in which different media meet!

Junior curator
A junior curator will also be involved, who will be in charge of two 'mentoree' curators, who will put together a separate part of the program at one of the locations. It concerns the Young Curators program that is part of the Noorderlicht Festival for the third time in a row.
With this mentoring programme, Noorderlicht realizes its ambition not only to create exhibitions and festivals, but also to facilitate the field, invest in young art practices and share experience and knowledge.
