Ton Broekhuis
About Ton Broekhuis
Ton Broekhuis (1951), graduated cum laude from the School of Photography in The Hague, followed by training at the Social Academy in Culemborg and qualified as a teacher of visual education at the Film Academy in Amsterdam. Ton started his career as a ‘visualiser’ at the Kritiese Filmers in Breda. In the eighties he is an enthusiastic photographer who is also committed to the development of committed photography in the Northern Netherlands. This path leads to the founding of the Noorderlicht photo festival in 1990, of which he becomes director. While he fights for the culture, his active shooting pauses. In the years that followed, Noorderlicht grew into a dynamic and idiosyncratic institution that earned international respect.
