💖 Inside the House of Neverlasting 𝐿𝒪𝒱𝐸! 💖 (2020)
Lena Kuzmich adopts a performative approach to express her struggles with our hetero-normative society, which forces womxn to sexualize themselves in their quest for love. In four chapters, she questions what womxn have to do to become loved, how they can shake off these chains, take control of their own bodies and accept themselves as they are. Kuzmich sets her film in a boundless world reminiscent of a subconscious, in which the protagonist searches for fundamental love and appreciation, but is met instead by an objectifying gaze, leaving her feeling empty. The search eventually brings her back to her childhood, to the warmth of childlike naïveté.
In her work, Austrian video artist Lena Kuzmich investigates the stigmas surrounding sexuality, gender and the body, and searches for an identity that is not dictated by role models. She presents imaginative worlds, liberating, alternative visions for a hyper-sexualised society full of taboos. The visually exuberant, childlike form of her work contrasts sharply with the heavy psychoanalytic themes she addresses.
