In Dirty Desks, Thomas Kuijpers recreates a famous early internet meme: a chaotic desk covered in fast food, cigarettes, and computers.
Each object was carefully sourced or handmade, from faded yogurt cups to beer cans collected in Malaysia. By making this digital joke from early internet culture physically real, Kuijpers explores how digital habits deeply penetrate our physical world. The large-format photograph, created with an 8x10 inch camera, exists only as a physical print; no digital copy was made. The work reveals how repetition and reproduction have reshaped our relationship with technology and workspace.
