In For You I Will Be an Island, Chun Hua Catherine Dong looks back at her childhood by the Yangtze River, a large river in China that flooded every year.
These floods forced her family to leave their home many times. She uses AI in this work—that means artificial intelligence, a computer program that can create its own images. These images show what her hometown might look like in the future. Often they are dark and show water covering everything or houses destroyed. She mixes these AI pictures with real photos of herself near the river, holding old things her family carried during the floods. This work is about memory, loss, and hope. It shows how technology helps us tell personal stories and how people and nature are connected and changed by climate.
