In You Are Light and Cabbage, Diana Gheorghiu creates a striking video featuring a cabbage symbolizing a wellness influencer.
The sculpture shows how social media is used to spread misinformation, COVID-19 conspiracies, and extreme ideas. In the story, the cabbage addresses three followers: a yoga mom, an entrepreneur, and a tennis player, all based on real people. When the three characters crash into a rock and die, the cabbage reappears as a kind of deity. It preaches about reconnecting with nature and finding inner peace. Gheorghiu shows how spiritual promises are misused online and how technology and our search for happiness become entangled. She playfully and sharply reveals the darker sides of the wellness world, where people often lose their way.
